Education Innovation Challenge
Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) in partnership with the Directorate of Science, Technology, and Innovation (DSTI) launched the Education Innovation Challenge to ensure all Sierra Leonean children can read, write and do basic math by age 10.
Five implementing partners were selected to serve 160 schools located throughout the country. Partners were given a per pupil budget and the opportunity to demonstrate various evidence-based approaches for improving learning outcomes.
Rockdale partners, NYAF and EducAid, were selected as two local organizations, serving 90 of the 160 schools. As grassroots organizations with a deep knowledge of the context and challenges, both organizations were able to successfully adapt their programs during and after COVID-19 to safely serve the needs of the communities.
